Bone Marrow Transplant Specialist, specializing in bone marrow transplant
Dr. Ann A. Jakubowski, MD, PhD, is a board-certified hematologist-oncologist with a focused clinical practice in leukemia, myelodysplastic syndrome, and stem cell transplantation. She serves as Clinical Director of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center's Adult Bone Marrow Transplant Outpatient Unit, a role that positions her at the center of the transplant patient experience from treatment through recovery. In this capacity, she oversees the care of patients who spend the majority of their post-transplant period in the outpatient setting, working to continuously improve outcomes and quality of life for this complex patient population.
Her research over the past several years has concentrated on new transplantation approaches designed to reduce transplant-related complications and enhance immune reconstitution following transplant. This work has expanded transplantation as a viable option for broader and previously underserved patient populations, including older adults. In collaboration with colleagues across Memorial Sloan Kettering, she played a central role in developing the institution's 65+ Program for older adults, through which physicians created a geriatric assessment tool now used by cancer centers nationwide to evaluate patients prior to treatment. Her research has also been instrumental in building an adult Survivorship Program for stem cell transplant patients, featuring a dedicated clinic where post-transplant complications are systematically monitored, reviewed with subspecialists, and studied to improve long-term outcomes and inform the design of future transplant protocols.
At the national level, Dr. Jakubowski serves on an expert committee for tissue, gene, and cell therapy of the United States Pharmacopeia, the non-governmental public standards-setting authority for healthcare products. This membership gives her a direct role in standardizing emerging treatment modalities at the forefront of transplantation and medical care. Through her combined contributions to clinical leadership, research, survivorship, and national policy, Dr. Jakubowski continues to advance the care of patients with hematologic diseases and expand access to life-saving transplant therapies.
