Radiation Oncologist
Dr. Christopher Crane, MD, is a radiation oncologist specializing in the treatment of gastrointestinal cancers at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan. His clinical focus encompasses cancers of the pancreas, liver, gallbladder, bile duct, stomach, rectum, and anus. Dr. Crane's path to radiation oncology was shaped by a deeply personal experience during medical school, when a radiation oncologist cared for someone close to him. That experience continues to inform his approach to patient interactions and his commitment to compassionate, thoughtful care.
Dr. Crane is actively leading several cancer clinical trials across the country, with a particular focus on high-dose radiation therapy for liver and pancreatic cancers. These trials investigate the delivery of radiation doses two to three times higher than conventional levels, an approach aimed at eliminating tumors in patients whose cancers cannot be removed through surgery. His research has demonstrated promising outcomes for this population, advancing the potential of radiation therapy as a meaningful treatment option for some of the most difficult-to-treat gastrointestinal malignancies.
Central to Dr. Crane's practice is patient education and reassurance. He takes considerable time with each patient to explain how advanced radiation technologies allow for precise targeting of tumors, minimizing exposure to healthy tissue and reducing the risk and severity of side effects. His goal for every patient who leaves his office is to feel hopeful and confident in the care they are receiving, with a shared sense of partnership in the fight against cancer.
