Genitourinary Medical Oncologist, specializing in genitourinary cancers
Dr. Darren R. Feldman, MD, is a medical oncologist specializing in genitourinary cancers at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, with focused expertise in testicular cancer (germ cell tumors) and kidney cancer (renal cell carcinoma). His path to oncology began early, shaped by accompanying his father, a medical oncologist, on rounds during high school, where he witnessed firsthand the meaningful relationships oncologists build with their patients. His commitment to the field deepened through exposure to MSK's research and clinical environment during residency and fellowship training. In his practice, Dr. Feldman prioritizes ensuring patients feel fully informed about their diagnosis and treatment options, drawing on MSK's extensive experience to provide reassurance and compassionate, individualized care.
Dr. Feldman directs MSK's testicular cancer research program, which spans all aspects and stages of the disease, from investigating why germ cell tumors develop to understanding the biologic basis of chemotherapy resistance. He collaborates with the laboratory of David Solit to identify molecular features of testicular cancer that may predict sensitivity or resistance to chemotherapy and patient outcomes. His work also addresses the long-term side effects of testicular cancer treatment, including heart disease, metabolic syndrome, and secondary cancers. In kidney cancer, his research focuses on integrating PET imaging and radiolabeled targeted therapies for clear cell renal cancer resistant to standard treatments, as well as advancing understanding of non-clear cell renal cancer. He leads national and international clinical trials testing immunotherapy, targeted therapies, and combination approaches in genitourinary cancers, and has presented his findings at meetings across the United States and internationally.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Feldman enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, learning languages, reading mystery novels, and playing golf.
