Dr. Amit Maity, MD, PhD, FASTRO, is a distinguished academic radiation oncologist and physician-scientist with a career dedicated to improving cancer outcomes through translational research and clinical innovation. He currently serves as Professor and Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Utah School of Medicine and holds the Huntsman Cancer Institute Endowed Chair in Cancer Research. Prior to this role, he was Professor and Executive Vice Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Pennsylvania, where he also held the Morton L. Kligerman Professorship. Dr. Maity earned his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine, completed an internal medicine residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, and a residency in radiation oncology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He also earned a PhD in pathology from the University of Pennsylvania and is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Radiation Oncology.
Dr. Maity’s research focuses on the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying tumor resistance to radiation and on developing therapeutic strategies to overcome it. He has been involved in numerous clinical trials integrating novel agents with radiation therapy, with a goal of personalizing treatment and improving patient outcomes. His laboratory work bridges basic science and clinical application, making significant contributions to the understanding of hypoxia in tumors and the role of targeted agents in radiosensitization.
A committed educator, Dr. Maity has trained countless residents and fellows who have gone on to distinguished careers in academic and clinical medicine.
