Dr. Armando E. Giuliano, MD, is a widely respected surgical oncologist at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he serves as Executive Vice Chair of Surgical Oncology and Co-Director of the Saul and Joyce Brandman Breast Center. He received his medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, completed his general surgery residency at the University of California, San Francisco, and went on to pursue fellowship training in surgical oncology at UCLA under Dr. Donald Morton. He holds the Linda and Jim Lippman Chair in Surgical Oncology and has practiced at Cedars-Sinai since 2001. He is internationally recognized for pioneering sentinel lymph node biopsy in breast cancer surgery, a landmark advancement that dramatically reduced the need for complete axillary lymph node dissection. His leadership in clinical trials such as ACOSOG Z0011 and NSABP B-32 demonstrated that patients with limited nodal involvement could safely avoid more invasive procedures without compromising survival.
