Medical Oncologist, Hematologist Oncologist, specializing in Hematologic Cancers
Dr. David A. Frank, MD, PhD, is a distinguished medical oncologist and physician-scientist known for his work in signal transduction and cancer biology. He currently serves as an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and a Senior Physician in the Department of Medical Oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Dr. Frank earned his MD and PhD degrees from Yale University, followed by internal medicine residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and medical oncology fellowship at Dana-Farber. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology and is widely recognized for his translational research in the STAT signaling pathway and its role in oncogenesis.
Dr. Frank’s research focuses on understanding how abnormal activation of transcription factors like STAT3 and STAT5 contributes to cancer cell survival, proliferation, and resistance to therapy. His lab has developed novel therapeutic strategies targeting these pathways in hematologic malignancies and solid tumors. He has helped elucidate the mechanisms by which oncogenic signaling integrates with the tumor microenvironment, and his work has led to the development of small molecule inhibitors that are currently in clinical trials. Through this bench-to-bedside approach, Dr. Frank has advanced therapeutic options for patients with difficult-to-treat cancers.
In addition to his scientific contributions, Dr. Frank is a respected educator and mentor, having trained numerous fellows, graduate students, and junior faculty in cancer biology and translational medicine. He is actively involved in collaborative research initiatives and serves on advisory panels for NIH and cancer research foundations. Dr. Frank has published extensively in high-impact journals and continues to play a pivotal role in bridging molecular oncology with clinical innovation. His leadership in understanding cancer signaling and developing targeted therapies underscores his lasting impact on the field.
