Dr. Diwakar Davar

Dr. Diwakar Davar, MD, MBBS, is a leading clinical investigator and global expert in cancer immunotherapy and biomarker-driven approaches to melanoma and solid tumors. He serves as Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and is a key faculty member of the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center’s Melanoma and Skin Cancer Program. Dr. Davar earned his medical degree from the University of Mumbai and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center, followed by fellowship training in Hematology and Medical Oncology at Thomas Jefferson University. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology, and is widely recognized for his leadership in translational immunotherapy research.

A pioneer in integrating immunogenomics and therapeutic strategies, Dr. Davar’s research focuses on overcoming resistance to immune checkpoint inhibitors and advancing adoptive cell therapies in melanoma. His laboratory has led seminal studies exploring the tumor microenvironment, predictive biomarkers of response, and rational immunotherapy combinations. Dr. Davar has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications and has spearheaded clinical trials that have redefined treatment paradigms for advanced melanoma and other immunotherapy-refractory cancers.

Beyond his research endeavors, Dr. Davar is a dedicated clinician and mentor who is committed to advancing precision oncology. He has mentored numerous trainees and junior faculty in translational cancer research, fostering the next generation of immuno-oncologists. Through his leadership in clinical and translational research, Dr. Davar continues to drive innovative strategies that enhance immunotherapy efficacy and expand treatment options for patients with aggressive and resistant cancers.
