Dr. Ellin Berman

Cancer Treated:

Dr. Berman is an attending physician on MSK’s Leukemia Service and Professor of Clinical Medicine at Weill Cornell. Each new referral undergoes quantitative BCR-ABL testing, cytogenomic profiling, and duplex minimal-residual-disease assays; the results inform multidisciplinary boards that balance targeted therapy, transplantation, and supportive care.

She helped pioneer arsenic-trioxide and all-trans-retinoic-acid regimens that transformed acute promyelocytic leukemia from a frequently fatal disease to one with cure rates exceeding ninety percent. Recent work focuses on treatment-free remission in CML and pregnancy-safe therapy, culminating in an April 2023 review on fertility and CML care.

Beyond MSK, Dr. Berman mentors international fellows through the International CML Foundation’s “CURE” program and leads bilingual education workshops that extend guideline-based leukemia care to underserved New York communities.
