Dr. Folakemi T. Odedina, PhD, is an internationally recognized cancer disparities researcher specializing in prostate cancer in Black men and global oncology. She serves as Professor in the Department of Pharmacotherapy and Translational Research at the University of Florida College of Pharmacy and is Co-Chair of the Prostate Cancer Transatlantic Consortium (CaPTC). Dr. Odedina earned her PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Texas at Austin and has dedicated her career to reducing the burden of cancer in underserved and minority populations worldwide.
Her research focuses on the epidemiology, behavioral determinants, and genetic risk factors of prostate cancer among men of African descent. She has led multi-institutional, transnational collaborations that investigate disparities in prostate cancer incidence, outcomes, and access to care, integrating both community engagement and molecular research. Through the CaPTC, she has built research and training capacity in the United States, Africa, and the Caribbean, fostering an international network of scientists, clinicians, and advocates.
Dr. Odedina is a passionate mentor and advocate for diversity in biomedical research, having trained numerous graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and early-career investigators. She has received multiple awards for her contributions to global cancer control and health equity, including recognition from the American Association for Cancer Research and the U.S. National Cancer Institute. Through her visionary leadership and dedication to addressing disparities, Dr. Folakemi T. Odedina continues to transform the landscape of global oncology.
