Dr. Ghulam Abbas, MD, MHCM, is a thoracic surgeon specializing in complex lung and esophageal surgeries, thoracic oncology, and minimally invasive surgical techniques. He currently serves as Chief of Thoracic Surgery and Director of the Lung Cancer Program at West Virginia University Cancer Institute. Dr. Abbas earned his medical degree from Allama Iqbal Medical College in Pakistan, completed his general surgery residency at West Virginia University, and his cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at the University of Kentucky. He also holds a Master’s in Health Care Management from Harvard University.
Dr. Abbas’s clinical expertise spans robotic-assisted thoracic surgery, lung cancer resections, esophageal cancer surgeries, and advanced airway procedures. He has been instrumental in developing minimally invasive approaches to thoracic malignancies, improving patient outcomes through reduced recovery times and enhanced precision.
