Dr. J. William Harbour

Dr. J. William Harbour, MD, is a distinguished ocular oncologist and molecular pathologist recognized for his expertise in uveal melanoma and ocular oncology. He serves as Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology and Director of the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami. Dr. Harbour earned his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, completed his residency in Ophthalmology at the Wills Eye Hospital, and pursued fellowship training in Ocular Oncology and Pathology at the University of California, San Francisco. He is board-certified in Ophthalmology and is widely regarded for his leadership in translational research and precision medicine in ocular cancers.

Dr. Harbour’s research has been pivotal in developing prognostic molecular tests for uveal melanoma, enabling personalized risk stratification and guiding therapeutic decisions. His laboratory has contributed significantly to understanding the molecular drivers of ocular tumors and advancing targeted treatment approaches. He has authored over 300 peer-reviewed publications and has led clinical trials that have reshaped the management of uveal melanoma.
