Dr. John P. Leonard, MD, is a nationally recognized hematologist-oncologist specializing in the treatment of lymphoma and hematologic malignancies. He serves as the Richard T. Silver Distinguished Professor of Hematology and Medical Oncology and Associate Dean for Clinical Research at Weill Cornell Medicine, where he is also a member of the Sandra and Edward Meyer Cancer Center. Dr. Leonard earned his medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine, completed his residency in internal medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, and trained as a fellow in hematology and medical oncology at the same institution. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Medical Oncology.
Dr. Leonard is internationally recognized for his leadership in lymphoma clinical research and his contributions to the development of novel biologic and targeted therapies. He has served as principal investigator on numerous multicenter trials that have advanced the standard of care, including studies that helped establish the role of rituximab and other monoclonal antibodies in lymphoma treatment. His research interests include personalized therapy approaches, biomarker-driven clinical trial design, and strategies to optimize sequencing of therapies in lymphoid malignancies. He has published extensively in leading journals and has shaped national guidelines for lymphoma care.
In addition to his clinical and research expertise, Dr. Leonard is a respected mentor and educator. He has trained a generation of hematology/oncology fellows and junior faculty and has held leadership roles in ASCO, ASH, and the NCI. Through his dedication to advancing lymphoma therapy and improving patient outcomes, Dr. John Leonard has significantly influenced the modern management of hematologic cancers.
