Dr. Lewis W. Teperman, MD, FACS, is a nationally recognized transplant and surgical oncologist who has long been at the forefront of liver transplantation and abdominal surgical oncology. He serves as Vice Chair of Surgery and Director of Solid Organ Transplantation at Northwell Health, holding a professorship at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. Dr. Teperman earned his MD from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and completed comprehensive surgical training at NYU Medical Center. Board‑certified in general surgery, he has dedicated decades to refining liver transplant techniques and complex hepatopancreatobiliary care.

Dr. Teperman is renowned for pioneering innovations in liver transplant protocols and organ preservation. As the primary leader in Northwell’s liver transplant program, he has performed thousands of lifesaving surgeries and led multi-institutional registries that optimize donor utilization and postoperative outcomes. His clinical leadership is complemented by involvement in policy and research initiatives aimed at expanding access to transplantation.
