Dr. Luis E. Raez, MD, FACP, FCCP, is a highly esteemed medical oncologist and scientific leader, best known for his expertise in thoracic oncology and translational cancer research. He serves as Medical Director and Chief Scientific Officer of the Memorial Cancer Institute at Memorial Health Care System in Florida, and leads the Thoracic Oncology Program. Dr. Raez earned his medical degree at Cayetano Heredia University in Peru and completed his residency, internship, and post‑graduate fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. Board‑certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology, and board‑eligible in Hematology, he has devoted over three decades to excellence in clinical care and research.
Dr. Raez is celebrated for designing phase I–III clinical trials evaluating novel chemotherapeutics and immunotherapies, including translational research into cancer vaccines and liquid biopsy applications. His work has been funded by the National Cancer Institute and pharmaceutical partnerships, and he has been invited to present his findings at major international oncology conferences across the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa. In leadership roles, he has served as President of the Florida Society of Clinical Oncology and International Chair of IASLC-Latin American Meetings, playing a key role in shaping lung cancer policy and research across Latin America.
Beyond his clinical and research impact, Dr. Raez is deeply committed to education and mentorship. He holds academic appointments at Florida International University, Florida Atlantic University, and as a Visiting Professor at Cayetano Heredia University. He also serves as Program Chair for major cancer symposia, including the Miami Cancer Meeting and Puerto Rico Fall Cancer Symposium. With accolades such as the GRACE Educator of the Year and multiple lifetime “Top Doctor” awards, Dr. Raez continues to advance the field of thoracic oncology through visionary leadership, clinical innovation, and a passion for equitable care.
