Dr. Michael I. D’Angelica, MD, FACS, is a nationally recognized surgical oncologist specializing in hepatobiliary and pancreatic cancers. He serves as the Enid A. Haupt Chair in Surgery and Vice Chair of Education in the Department of Surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where he has developed one of the highest-volume liver surgery programs in the nation. Dr. D’Angelica received his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine and completed his general surgery residency at the University of Connecticut, followed by fellowship training in surgical oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering.
Dr. D’Angelica is especially known for his expertise in complex surgical procedures—including liver resections for metastatic colorectal cancer, pancreatic resections (Whipple procedures), and bile duct operations—for both primary and metastatic malignancies. He leads a multidisciplinary team performing approximately 1,000 hepatopancreatobiliary-related surgeries annually.
