Dr. Michael S. Cookson, MD, MMHC, is a nationally recognized urologic oncologist with expertise in the surgical and medical management of urologic malignancies. He serves as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Urology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and holds the Donald D. Albers Chair in Urology. Dr. Cookson earned his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine and completed his urology residency at the University of Texas San Antonio. He pursued fellowship training in urologic oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He is board-certified in Urology and is regarded for his leadership in bladder and prostate cancer care.
Dr. Cookson’s research has focused on optimizing treatment strategies for advanced and recurrent urologic cancers, with contributions to the study of surgical approaches, outcomes, and clinical trial development. He has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters addressing prostate cancer, bladder cancer, and kidney cancer. He has served as principal investigator on clinical studies and has been an active participant in cooperative group trials that have influenced national treatment standards. His scholarship has helped define evidence-based approaches to urologic oncology.
In addition to his research and clinical expertise, Dr. Cookson is a trusted educator and mentor.
