Dr. Patricia A. Ganz, MD, is a pioneering medical oncologist and international leader in cancer survivorship, patient-reported outcomes, and cancer care delivery. She serves as Distinguished Professor of Health Policy and Management at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health and Professor of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Dr. Ganz earned her medical degree from the UCLA School of Medicine, completed her residency in Internal Medicine at UCLA Medical Center, and received fellowship training in Medical Oncology at the National Cancer Institute. She is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology and is widely recognized for her leadership in integrating quality-of-life research into oncology practice.
A trailblazer in the field of survivorship, Dr. Ganz’s research has focused on understanding the long-term and late effects of cancer treatment, particularly among breast cancer patients. She has led pivotal studies examining cognitive dysfunction, fatigue, and psychological outcomes in cancer survivors, and was among the first investigators to embed patient-reported outcomes in clinical trials. As chair of the Institute of Medicine committee that produced the landmark 2005 report From Cancer Patient to Cancer Survivor: Lost in Transition, she helped define national priorities for survivorship care and set the agenda for clinical practice and research in this evolving field.
In addition to her research and clinical leadership, Dr. Ganz is a dedicated mentor and educator. She directs the UCLA Center for Cancer Prevention and Control Research and has trained numerous physician-scientists working at the interface of oncology, public health, and health services research. She is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and has received numerous honors, including the American Cancer Society Medal of Honor, the Susan G. Komen Brinker Award for Scientific Distinction, and the ASCO–American Cancer Society Award for Excellence in Cancer Prevention Research. Through her sustained commitment to innovation, advocacy, and mentorship, Dr. Patricia A. Ganz has transformed the field of survivorship and improved care for cancer patients worldwide.
