Medical Oncologist, specializing in Gastrointestinal Cancers
Dr. Richard S. Kim, MD, is a nationally recognized medical oncologist specializing in gastrointestinal (GI) cancers, including colorectal, gastric, hepatobiliary, and esophageal malignancies. He serves as Chair of the Gastrointestinal Oncology Department and Program Leader of the GI Oncology Program at Moffitt Cancer Center, as well as a Professor of Oncology at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine. Dr. Kim earned his medical degree from the University of Toledo College of Medicine and completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Illinois, followed by a fellowship in hematology and oncology at the National Cancer Institute. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology.
Dr. Kim is widely recognized for his work in clinical and translational research focused on targeted therapies and immunotherapy for advanced GI cancers. He has served as principal investigator on numerous Phase I–III clinical trials and has contributed significantly to the development of novel treatment strategies that personalize care for patients with gastrointestinal malignancies. His research integrates biomarker-driven approaches to therapy selection and resistance mechanisms. A prolific author, Dr. Kim has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and continues to lead efforts in drug development and multidisciplinary treatment innovation.
In addition to his clinical and research leadership, Dr. Kim is an active academic mentor and educator, training fellows and junior investigators in oncology. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Association for Cancer Research.
