Dr. Robert J. Motzer

Dr. Robert J. Motzer, MD, is an internationally respected medical oncologist with specialized expertise in kidney cancer and other genitourinary malignancies. He serves as a Medical Oncologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and holds the Jack and Dorothy Byrne Chair in Clinical Oncology. Dr. Motzer earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School, completed his residency in internal medicine at Cornell University Medical Center, and pursued fellowship training in hematology and oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology and is widely regarded as a global leader in the development of therapies for advanced renal cell carcinoma.

Dr. Motzer has led pioneering research that has transformed the treatment landscape for kidney cancer. He played a key role in the development and clinical approval of targeted therapies and immune checkpoint inhibitors that now form the backbone of treatment for metastatic renal cell carcinoma. He is the architect of the Motzer Criteria, a widely used prognostic tool that has guided clinical trial design and treatment decision-making worldwide.
