Dr. Toni K. Choueiri, MD, is an internationally recognized medical oncologist specializing in genitourinary malignancies, with a particular focus on kidney and bladder cancers. He serves as Director of the Lank Center for Genitourinary Oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, and is the Jerome and Nancy Kohlberg Chair of Medicine at Dana-Farber. Dr. Choueiri earned his medical degree from Saint Joseph University in Beirut, Lebanon, and completed his residency in internal medicine at Yale-New Haven Hospital, followed by a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology and is widely regarded for his leadership in kidney cancer clinical research.
Dr. Choueiri’s research has shaped the modern therapeutic landscape of kidney cancer, leading pivotal clinical trials that resulted in the approval of several novel agents, including VEGF receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors, checkpoint inhibitors, and combination regimens. He has authored over 600 peer-reviewed publications and has been instrumental in establishing international treatment standards in renal cell carcinoma. His translational work has identified key biomarkers of response and resistance, advancing the field of precision oncology in kidney cancer.
In addition to his research and clinical leadership, Dr. Choueiri is a dedicated educator and mentor. He has trained numerous fellows and junior faculty, many of whom have become leaders in oncology worldwide. He serves in leadership roles for the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Kidney Cancer Association, and the European Society for Medical Oncology. Dr. Choueiri has received numerous awards, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s Allen Lichter Visionary Leader Award.
