Dr. Vivian E. Strong

Dr. Vivian E. Strong, MD, is a leading surgical oncologist specializing in gastric cancer and minimally invasive gastrointestinal surgery. She serves as Vice Chair of Surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and holds the Iris Cantor Endowed Chair. She is also a Professor of Surgery and Associate Dean at Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Strong earned her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and completed her residency in general surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell, followed by fellowship training in surgical oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering. She is board-certified in General Surgery and is widely recognized for her expertise in the surgical management of gastric and adrenal tumors.

A national leader in minimally invasive surgical techniques, Dr. Strong has been instrumental in advancing laparoscopic and robotic-assisted procedures for patients with stomach cancer and other complex gastrointestinal diseases. She is a core member of Memorial Sloan Kettering’s Gastric Disease Management Team and has helped define treatment protocols that integrate surgery with precision medicine, chemotherapy, and targeted therapies. Dr. Strong’s research has focused on improving surgical outcomes, identifying prognostic factors in gastric malignancies, and optimizing recovery pathways.
