Dr. Ellen M. Basu, MD, PhD, is a pediatric oncologist on the MSK Kids team at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, specializing in the care of children with neuroblastoma. With a strong foundation in immunology, she brings deep scientific expertise to her clinical practice and research, driven by a commitment to understanding and harnessing the immune system's natural capacity to fight disease. Immunotherapies pioneered at Memorial Sloan Kettering, in which her team has played a central role, are now part of the standard of care for children with neuroblastoma. She works closely with the Molecular Imaging and Therapy Service at MSK, conducting theranostic clinical trials that combine targeted radioactive agents for both tumor imaging and treatment, including I-131 MIBG therapy.
Dr. Basu is a dedicated educator and program leader within the academic training mission of MSK. She serves as Director of the Pediatric Rotational Residency, Director of the Fellows' Continuity Clinic, and Associate Director of the NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center-MSK Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Fellowship. In these roles, she shares her expertise in pediatric oncology and neuroblastoma care with physicians at various stages of training, many of whom go on to practice across the country and around the world. Her commitment to education reflects her belief that advancing the field requires nurturing future generations of skilled clinicians and researchers.
The neuroblastoma program at Memorial Sloan Kettering treats more patients with this disease than any other institution in the world, and Dr. Basu is an integral part of that team's shared mission to improve patient survival. Her approach to care is grounded in close collaboration with families, listening carefully to parents who know their children best and treating them as vital partners in planning and carrying out treatment. Through her work in immunotherapy, theranostics, clinical research, and physician education, Dr. Basu continues to advance the standard of care for children with neuroblastoma.
