Lymphoma Specialist & Cellular Therapist, specializing in lymphoma
Gilles Salles, MD, PhD, is a distinguished medical oncologist specializing in hematologic cancers, with extensive expertise in lymphoma and chronic lymphocytic leukemia. He serves as Chief of the Lymphoma Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK), a role he assumed upon relocating from Lyon, France in 2020. With more than 35 years of clinical and research experience, Dr. Salles has developed particular expertise in diffuse large B-cell, follicular, and other B-cell lymphomas. He sees patients at MSK Koch in Manhattan, a state-of-the-art outpatient facility designed to provide comprehensive cancer care across multiple specialties in a single location. His approach to patient care is grounded in open communication, taking time to explain the latest treatment advances and ensuring that each plan reflects the specific needs of the individual.
As a member of MSK's Lymphoma Service Disease Management Team, Dr. Salles collaborates closely with colleagues across disciplines to deliver integrated, patient-centered care. His treatment expertise spans immunotherapy, targeted therapy, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. A passion for hematologic oncology that first emerged during his residency has driven him to pursue the dual challenge of advancing science and providing sustained medical care across the full course of a patient's illness. Over the course of his career, he has contributed directly to major advances in lymphoma treatment, including the development of immunotherapies such as monoclonal antibodies and CAR T cell therapy for B-cell lymphoma. He remains deeply committed to clinical research, leading large-scale studies to establish standards of care and evaluating new treatments that may support future drug approvals. Eligible patients are routinely offered the opportunity to participate in clinical trials as part of their care.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Salles and his wife have embraced life in New York City, exploring its vibrant live music scene and enjoying the impromptu performances found during walks through Central Park. His move from Lyon to New York reflects a career defined by curiosity, dedication, and a willingness to pursue new opportunities in service of patients with blood cancers.
