Radiation Oncologist
Dr. Lior Z. Braunstein, MD, is a board-certified radiation oncologist and scientist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center specializing in the treatment of localized and metastatic breast cancer. He sees patients at Memorial Hospital in Manhattan and MSK Bergen in New Jersey, bringing advanced radiation therapy techniques to his clinical practice, including intensity-modulated radiation therapy, image-guided radiation therapy, stereotactic body radiation therapy, and stereotactic radiosurgery. His dual focus on rigorous science and patient-centered care positions him among the leading voices in breast radiation oncology.
Dr. Braunstein's research program centers on molecular and biomarker-driven clinical trials designed to personalize the use of radiation therapy, including identifying patients who may safely forgo it without compromising outcomes. His work spans cancer epidemiology and translational research, with the aim of bringing the latest scientific advances directly into clinical practice. He and his team have pioneered several studies that have helped define the standard of care in breast cancer therapy, and they continue to refine approaches to prevention, treatment, and surveillance across breast and other cancers. He serves as Principal Investigator or Co-investigator on multiple national and international breast cancer trials and holds active leadership roles in the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society for Radiation Oncology, and NRG Oncology.
In addition to his clinical and scientific contributions, Dr. Braunstein is deeply committed to training the next generation of radiation oncologists. As Director of the MSKCC Radiation Oncology Residency Program, he oversees the education and professional development of students and residents in the field. His combined dedication to innovative research, expert patient care, and rigorous medical education reflects a broad commitment to advancing the discipline of radiation oncology at both an institutional and national level.
