Dr. Michael May

Michael May, MD, is a board-certified medical oncologist with specialized training in gastrointestinal cancers, seeing patients at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center's Westchester location. His clinical practice focuses primarily on the treatment of pancreatic cancer, where he brings both deep expertise and a deeply personal commitment to advancing patient care. Known for his honest, direct approach, Dr. May prioritizes open communication with patients, providing as much information as they want about their diagnosis and treatment options while consistently advocating for their best interests.

Dr. May's dedication to gastrointestinal oncology is rooted in personal experience. Both his uncle and grandfather were diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and watching his uncle navigate treatment gave him firsthand insight into how much progress was still needed in this area. That experience shaped his career path and drives his work as an active clinical researcher. He develops and leads clinical trials studying the next generation of treatments for gastrointestinal cancers and collaborates with laboratory scientists to better understand how improved therapies can be developed. Staying current with the most promising clinical trial options is central to how he approaches care, ensuring each patient has access to the newest and most effective treatments available.

Outside of medicine, Dr. May is a proud father of two and an avid runner who has completed several marathons. Born and raised in New York City, he now lives in Connecticut with his family and enjoys spending time outdoors, including in the Catskills and Adirondacks.
