Pediatric Hematologist-Oncologist
Dr. Paul A. Meyers, MD, is a distinguished pediatric oncologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) with extensive experience treating children and young adults with sarcomas. He is a proud member of MSK Kids, a multidisciplinary team that develops individualized care plans for young patients facing some of the most challenging tumors in pediatric oncology. MSKCC treats more children and young adults with sarcomas than anywhere else in the country, and Dr. Meyers has been a central figure in building that expertise. A particular focus of his clinical practice is the care of adolescents and young adults who are navigating the transition to independent living, and he works to support their autonomy while ensuring they have the emotional and practical backing of their families throughout treatment.
Dr. Meyers directs clinical research aimed at developing and evaluating new therapies for sarcomas, including osteosarcoma, Ewing sarcoma, rhabdomyosarcoma, synovial sarcoma, and undifferentiated sarcoma. He served for five years as head of the bone sarcoma strategy group for the Children's Cancer Group, where he directed national clinical trials for osteosarcoma and Ewing sarcoma. He has conducted trials for patients with both newly diagnosed and recurrent disease across a broad spectrum of rare tumors that occur in young people. He has authored or co-authored more than 135 publications on sarcomas, received the Willet E. Whitmore Award for Clinical Excellence from MSKCC in 1995, served as president of the Connective Tissue Oncology Society, and is a member of the National Cancer Institute's Physician Data Query Pediatric Board.
Beyond his clinical and research roles, Dr. Meyers is a dedicated educator and mentor, contributing to one of the most comprehensive pediatric hematology and oncology fellowship training programs in the country, with trainees also benefiting from faculty affiliations at Weill Cornell Medicine and The Rockefeller University. He is also the founding medical director of Happiness Is Camping, a summer camp for children with cancer, which provides a meaningful respite from the demands of cancer treatment. Dr. Meyers describes witnessing these children thrive outside the hospital environment as one of the great joys of his career.
