Dr. Saad Z. Usmani, MD, MBA, FACP, FASCO, is a hematologist-oncologist specializing in the care of patients with multiple myeloma and other plasma cell disorders, including monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS), smoldering myeloma, and amyloidosis. He has dedicated more than 14 years to treating patients whose diseases are considered high risk or hard to treat, bringing deep clinical expertise to some of the most challenging cases in the field. His practice is grounded in a patient-centered philosophy that prioritizes education, individualized treatment planning, and ensuring that patients and their families feel both informed and supported at every stage of their cancer journey.
Dr. Usmani's research focuses on advancing therapeutic strategies for multiple myeloma and related plasma cell disorders. He has been involved in the clinical development of several therapies approved by the FDA for patients with multiple myeloma and other blood cancers, with a particular interest in novel immunotherapy and small molecule approaches. His research also centers on the use of minimal residual disease (MRD) testing to guide treatment decisions, developing new strategies for high-risk disease, and identifying methods to recognize which patients with early precursor conditions are at risk of progressing to active disease requiring treatment.
Outside of his clinical and research work, Dr. Usmani is a committed advocate for cancer research funding, channeling his personal passion for endurance athletics into meaningful fundraising efforts. Among his most notable endeavors are the Mount Everest Base Camp trek in 2018, the Boston Marathon in 2019, and the 2021 New York City Marathon, all undertaken to raise money for cancer research. His dedication to his patients, his science, and his broader mission reflects a physician who views medicine as both a professional calling and a deeply personal commitment.
