Helping Understand Genetic Risks for Thyroid Cancer in Families
NCT02747888 · RecruitingThis trial studies thyroid cancer, especially in children and families. Researchers want to understand how genes and other factors may increase the risk of thyroid cancer and thyroid nodules. Participants will share family and medical history and provide a blood or saliva sample for genetic research. They are particularly interested in those with past or current thyroid cancer or nodules and those from families with a history of hereditary cancer.

Who can join
This study is open to children and adults who have had thyroid cancer or nodules, or come from families with a high suspicion of hereditary thyroid cancer. Healthy volunteers are welcome too. The study team will confirm who can participate.
What happens during the trial
Participants will be grouped based on their family history. Some will have a lower suspected risk and will provide samples for storage. Others, with a higher suspected risk, will also give samples and may see a genetic counselor. Everyone will share their family and medical history, and no one will be treated with a drug in this study.

The trial is led by the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, with Dr. Junne Kamihara as the principal investigator. They are responsible for the study.
