About this trial
This study looks at people who are having surgery for esophageal cancer. It focuses on those at high risk of leaks where the surgery connects the stomach and esophagus. The main goal is to see how often these leaks happen in participants who receive a special procedure before their surgery to help reduce this risk.
The trial ID is NCT07449208. This is an observational study, which means it looks at how well the procedure works in real-life settings. It is not regulated by the FDA as a drug or device. The study plans to include about 40 participants.
Who can join
This study is open to adults aged 18 and older, including both men and women. Participants must have a confirmed diagnosis of esophageal cancer and have specific risk factors for leaks. They should also agree to the special procedure before surgery. The trial team will confirm if someone is eligible to join.

What happens in the study
Participants will receive a special procedure called gastric preconditioning by percutaneous angioembolization before their esophagectomy. Everyone in the study will have this treatment to help reduce the risk of leaks. The main outcome the study is looking at is how often leaks occur within one year after surgery.
