Testing Aromatherapy Essential Oils to Ease Anxiety and Nausea in Cancer Patients
NCT07126301 · RecruitingThis clinical trial looks at how well aromatherapy essential oils work to reduce anxiety and nausea in cancer patients getting infusions. Current nausea medicines can cause unwanted side effects. This study will explore using essential oils like ginger, peppermint, and lavender, which may help without those side effects. Some previous studies have shown these oils can help, but results have varied. A colorless, odorless oil called jojoba will be used as a placebo for comparison.

Who can join
Adults aged 18 and older can join. Participants must be able to understand and sign a consent form and follow the study's requirements. They should have nausea after their last chemotherapy treatment and have at least two more infusions planned. The study is open to everyone regardless of gender, race, or ethnicity. Some people, like those with respiratory issues or those who have recently used aromatherapy, cannot join. The trial team will confirm who is eligible.
What happens during the trial
Participants will be randomly placed into one of four groups. Each group will inhale essential oils through a personal inhalation device during their infusions. Group 1 will inhale peppermint oil, Group 2 will inhale lavender oil, Group 3 will inhale ginger oil, and Group 4 will inhale the placebo jojoba oil. Each group will do this once every hour, at least three times a day for four days. After the study, participants will be followed up 25 days later.
