About this trial

This study looks at how using cannabis, also known as marijuana, affects the quality of life for patients with multiple myeloma who are getting chemotherapy. It aims to find out both the potential benefits and any issues that might come from cannabis use. Participants will be grouped based on their cannabis use and will share information about their experiences during treatment.

Who can join

Anyone 18 years or older can join this study. It is open to both men and women who have been newly diagnosed with multiple myeloma. Participants should be able to read and understand English. Some people may not be eligible, such as those who have received more than four cycles of first-line therapy or have other active cancers. The study team will confirm who can join.

What happens during the trial

Participants will be placed into one of two groups. In the first group, patients will fill out surveys and provide blood samples over the course of the study. In the second group, healthcare providers will complete a survey to provide their insights. This study does not involve any drug interventions, as it is observational.

The trial team

The trial is led by the City of Hope Medical Center, with Dr. Richard Lee as the principal investigator. The National Cancer Institute is also collaborating on this study.

This trial started on January 21, 2026, and is expected to finish by August 22, 2030. It is currently enrolling new participants.
