Radiation Oncologist
Dr. Abraham J. Wu, MD, is a radiation oncologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan, specializing in the treatment of esophageal, lung, rectal, pancreatic, and other gastrointestinal cancers, including metastatic disease to the liver and other sites. With more than 17 years of experience in radiation oncology, he has developed particular expertise in advanced techniques including stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) and brachytherapy. Dr. Wu has previously served as director of MSK's radiation oncology residency training program and currently holds the role of Vice Chair of the hospital's Graduate Medical Education Committee, reflecting a longstanding commitment to training the next generation of radiation oncologists.
Dr. Wu's clinical and research work centers on expanding and refining the use of SBRT and brachytherapy for patients with thoracic and gastrointestinal malignancies. He has led clinical trials at MSK investigating brachytherapy in gastrointestinal and thoracic cancers, a technique he values for its ability to treat tumors that have recurred after prior radiation in situations where standard radiation therapy may not be an option. He is also closely involved in several nationwide trials examining radiation therapy approaches for lung and gastrointestinal cancers. His ongoing work to extend SBRT to a broader patient population reflects his focus on delivering treatments that are more effective, less toxic, and more convenient than conventional radiation regimens.
Patient education and communication are central to Dr. Wu's approach to care. He places a strong emphasis on ensuring that patients understand why radiation therapy is recommended, what benefits to expect, and how potential side effects can be managed through MSK's experienced team and state-of-the-art supportive treatments. He is known for making himself and his entire care team, including nurses, resident physicians, and office staff, consistently available to address patient concerns. Outside of medicine, Dr. Wu enjoys playing and listening to music, spending time outdoors, and cheering for sports teams from his hometown of Seattle alongside his wife and two sons.
