Leukemia Specialist, specializing in leukemia
Dr. Anupama Doraiswamy, MBBS, is a hematologist-oncologist specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of blood cancers, with focused expertise in acute leukemias, myeloproliferative neoplasms, and myelodysplastic syndrome. She sees patients at Memorial Sloan Kettering Basking Ridge in New Jersey, bringing the full resources and clinical expertise of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center to patients in the region. Drawn to medicine by a lifelong fascination with science and human biology, she was further inspired by mentors in the field to pursue malignant hematology as her specialty.
Dr. Doraiswamy approaches the care of patients with myeloid malignancies and leukemias with a recognition that these are a heterogeneous group of disorders, requiring treatment strategies that range from active monitoring to targeted therapies and chemotherapy. She places a strong emphasis on tailoring care to each individual patient, making treatment decisions collaboratively with patients and their families or caregivers. She works closely with a multidisciplinary team that includes nurses, social workers, and supportive care staff, and collaborates with colleagues on the bone marrow transplant team to deliver comprehensive care. As principal investigator for several clinical trials at MSK, she has contributed to research exploring new treatment approaches for myelodysplastic syndrome, myeloproliferative neoplasms, and leukemia.
Outside of her clinical and research work, Dr. Doraiswamy pursues a passion for the arts and nature, enjoying oil portrait painting and gardening in her personal time.
