Dr. Anil Sood

Dr. Anil K. Sood, MD, FACS, is an internationally recognized gynecologic oncologist and physician-scientist specializing in ovarian cancer biology and therapeutics. He serves as Professor and Vice Chair for Translational Research in the Department of Gynecologic Oncology and Reproductive Medicine at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he also holds the Bettyann Asche Murray Distinguished Professorship in Ovarian Cancer Research. Dr. Sood earned his medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Florida, and pursued fellowship training in Gynecologic Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center. He is board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology and is widely regarded for his leadership in translational cancer research.

A pioneer in understanding the tumor microenvironment and mechanisms of metastasis, Dr. Sood’s research has led to groundbreaking discoveries in stress-mediated cancer progression, RNA interference therapeutics, and anti-angiogenic strategies. His laboratory has been at the forefront of developing novel therapeutics that target the interplay between cancer cells and their microenvironment, with a focus on overcoming resistance to standard treatments. Dr. Sood has authored over 500 peer-reviewed publications and has led numerous clinical trials translating laboratory findings into innovative therapies for ovarian and other gynecologic cancers.

In addition to his research and clinical leadership, Dr. Sood is a dedicated mentor and advocate for translational science. He has mentored numerous trainees who have gone on to leadership positions in academic medicine and research. He serves on advisory boards for several national cancer research organizations and has been honored with multiple awards recognizing his contributions to cancer research and patient care. Through his commitment to scientific innovation, mentorship, and compassionate care, Dr. Anil K. Sood continues to advance the field of gynecologic oncology and improve outcomes for women with cancer worldwide.
