Dr. Robert C. Bast Jr., MD, is a pioneering medical oncologist and cancer biologist whose discovery of CA-125 revolutionized the early detection of ovarian cancer. He serves as Vice President for Translational Research at MD Anderson Cancer Center and holds the Harry Carothers Wiess Distinguished University Chair in Cancer Research. Dr. Bast earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School, completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital, and pursued fellowship training in Medical Oncology at the National Cancer Institute. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology and is internationally recognized for his contributions to cancer biomarker research and translational oncology.
