Dr. Catriona Jamieson

Dr. Catriona H. Jamieson, MD, PhD, is a distinguished hematologist‑oncologist and physician‑scientist at UC San Diego, where she holds the Koman Family Presidential Endowed Chair in Cancer Research and serves as Professor of Medicine and Deputy Director at Moores Cancer Center. A graduate of the University of British Columbia (MD, PhD, BS in Genetics), she completed residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Bone Marrow Transplantation at Stanford, followed by additional training in hematologic malignancies. Board‑certified in Internal Medicine and Hematology, Dr. Jamieson leads the Alpha Stem Cell Clinic and cares for patients with myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs), leukemia, and related disorders—offering both in-person and telehealth consultations.

She is internationally recognized for her groundbreaking research targeting leukemia and stem cell biology. Her laboratory studies have revealed mechanisms of stem cell resistance in MPNs and leukemia, leading to the first clinical trial targeting cancer stem cells. Dr. Jamieson’s team pioneered the rescue and development of fedratinib, a JAK2 inhibitor, and has made major contributions to understanding RNA editing, signaling pathways, and clonal evolution in hematologic cancers. Her work has been supported by awards including the UC San Diego Rell Sunn Award, CURE Media Group MPN Heroes Award, and the Koman Family Presidential Endowed Chair, recognizing her leadership in regenerative medicine and precision oncology.

In addition to her clinical and scientific work, Dr. Jamieson is a mentor, educator, and strategic leader. She directs stem cell and hematology clinical trials, including studies in MPNs and leukemia, and her efforts have earned her an NCI Research Specialist Award. She serves on national committees and frequently presents at major conferences, advancing the translation of findings from bench to bedside. Through her integrated approach—spanning patient care, translational research, education, and national leadership—Dr. Jamieson is regarded as a top expert in stem cell–targeted therapies and hematologic malignancies.
