Dr. Joseph M. Tuscano, MD, is a regionally esteemed hematologist-oncologist and a premier specialist in stem cell transplantation and hematologic malignancies. He serves as Professor of Medicine and Director of the Stem Cell Transplant and Malignant Hematology Program at UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Tuscano earned his medical degree from the University of Southern California School of Medicine, completed his residency in internal medicine at UC Davis Medical Center, and pursued fellowship training in hematology and oncology at the National Cancer Institute and UC Davis. Board-certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Medical Oncology, he brings decades of clinical expertise to the care of patients with leukemia, lymphoma, myelodysplastic syndromes, and multiple myeloma.
Dr. Tuscano is recognized for his pioneering translational and clinical research, particularly in developing novel antibody-based and immune-mediated therapies for blood cancers. He has led and contributed to numerous early-phase clinical trials that explore CAR T-cell therapy, monoclonal antibodies, and targeted agents in treatment-resistant leukemias and lymphomas. A prolific academic, Dr. Tuscano has authored a wide range of peer-reviewed publications and is frequently invited to speak at major scientific and oncology conferences. In his role as Interim Chief of Malignant Hematology and Cellular Therapy, he also oversees one of the region’s most advanced adult stem cell transplant programs.
Beyond his scientific and clinical accomplishments, Dr. Tuscano is a dedicated mentor and educator, actively training residents, fellows, and early-career physician-scientists. He has received numerous accolades for his contributions to patient care and academic leadership, including the UC Davis Diamond Doctor Award and consistent recognition as a “Top Doctor” by regional medical organizations.
