Dr. Lei Zheng

Dr. Lei Zheng, MD, PhD, is a renowned gastrointestinal oncologist and immunotherapy researcher specializing in pancreatic and hepatobiliary cancers. He serves as Professor of Oncology and Co-Director of the Pancreatic Cancer Multidisciplinary Clinic at the Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Zheng earned his medical degree from Peking Union Medical College in Beijing, China, and completed his PhD in Immunology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore and fellowship in Medical Oncology at Johns Hopkins. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology and is widely recognized for his leadership in translational immunotherapy research.

Dr. Zheng’s research focuses on developing novel immunotherapeutic strategies to overcome the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment in pancreatic cancer. His laboratory has been at the forefront of designing combination therapies, including immune checkpoint blockade and cancer vaccines, to enhance anti-tumor immune responses. He has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications and has led clinical trials that have advanced the application of immunotherapy in gastrointestinal malignancies.

In addition to his research achievements, Dr. Zheng is a dedicated mentor and leader in translational oncology. He plays an active role in national pancreatic cancer research initiatives and serves on advisory panels shaping immunotherapy strategies for GI cancers.
