Dr. Manuel Hidalgo Medina

Dr. Manuel Hidalgo Medina, MD, PhD, is an internationally recognized medical oncologist specializing in gastrointestinal cancers, with a particular focus on pancreatic cancer. He serves as Chief of the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology at Weill Cornell Medicine and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, and holds the Walter B. Wriston Chair in Pancreatic Cancer Research. Dr. Hidalgo earned his medical degree from the University of Navarra in Spain and a PhD in oncology from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. He completed his oncology training at Hospital 12 de Octubre in Madrid and a fellowship in drug development at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He is board-certified in Medical Oncology and is widely regarded for his leadership in cancer drug development and translational research.

A pioneer in the use of patient-derived xenograft models for personalized cancer therapy, Dr. Hidalgo has led early-phase clinical trials of numerous targeted agents for pancreatic and gastrointestinal cancers. His work contributed to the development and approval of key therapies, including nab-paclitaxel for pancreatic cancer. He has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications and has been instrumental in advancing precision oncology through biomarker-driven treatment strategies. In addition to his research and clinical leadership, Dr. Hidalgo is a dedicated educator and mentor. He has held prominent academic and clinical positions at institutions including Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School, and he previously led the Clinical Research Program at the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre. He serves on the boards of several professional and industry organizations, including the American Association for Cancer Research and Bristol Myers Squibb.
