Dr. Padmanee Sharma

Dr. Padmanee Sharma, MD, PhD, is a globally recognized immunologist and genitourinary medical oncologist known for her groundbreaking work in immune checkpoint therapy. She serves as Professor of Genitourinary Medical Oncology and Immunology at MD Anderson Cancer Center and is Scientific Director of the Immunotherapy Platform. Dr. Sharma earned her medical degree and PhD in Immunology from Pennsylvania State University, completed her residency in Internal Medicine at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center, and fellowship in Medical Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology and is widely acclaimed for her translational research in cancer immunotherapy.

Dr. Sharma’s research has been instrumental in identifying mechanisms of response and resistance to immune checkpoint inhibitors, leading to the development of novel combination immunotherapies for bladder, prostate, and kidney cancers. Her work bridges fundamental immunology with clinical trial design, significantly contributing to the advancement of personalized immunotherapy strategies.
