Dr. Thomas E. Hutson

Dr. Thomas E. Hutson, DO, PharmD, FACP, is an internationally recognized genitourinary medical oncologist specializing in kidney cancer therapeutics. He serves as Director of the Urologic Oncology Program at Baylor University Medical Center and Co-Chair of the US Oncology Genitourinary Research Committee. Dr. Hutson earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Ohio University, his PharmD from Ohio Northern University, completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic, and pursued fellowship training in Hematology and Medical Oncology at the Cleveland Clinic Taussig Cancer Institute. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Medical Oncology and is renowned for his leadership in advancing targeted therapies and immunotherapies for renal cell carcinoma.

Dr. Hutson has led numerous pivotal clinical trials that have established VEGF-targeted therapies, mTOR inhibitors, and immune checkpoint inhibitors as standards of care for kidney cancer. His research focuses on optimizing combination regimens and sequencing strategies to improve outcomes for patients with advanced genitourinary malignancies. He has authored over 250 peer-reviewed publications and has been instrumental in developing clinical guidelines for the management of kidney cancer.
