Dr. Sam S. Yoon

1 Pondfield Road Bronxville, NY 10708
212-305-0273

Dr. Yoon leads Columbia’s newly created Division of Surgical Oncology and serves as Vice-Chair for Surgical Oncology Research and Education. His program begins each case with high-resolution CT, staging laparoscopy, and next-generation sequencing; results are vetted at a weekly multidisciplinary board that pairs operative plans with peri-operative systemic therapy and clinical-trial opportunities.

An authority on stomach cancer, he refined laparoscopic total gastrectomy techniques and co-authored pivotal guidelines on risk-reducing surgery for CDH1 mutation carriers. His translational laboratory investigates tumour-immune interactions and angiogenic signalling in diffuse-type gastric cancer, work that guides first-in-human antibody–drug-conjugate trials now enrolling at CUIMC.

A committed educator, Dr. Yoon chairs the CUIMC Surgical Research Council and mentors fellows on grant writing and trial design. Community programs in Northern Manhattan and the Bronx offer bilingual screening and nutrition workshops, reflecting his goal of coupling precision surgery with health-equity outreach.
