Dr. Richard L. Shapiro

Dr. Richard L. Shapiro, MD, is a distinguished surgical oncologist specializing in the treatment of melanoma, soft tissue sarcomas, and complex skin cancers. He serves as Director of Surgical Oncology Operations and Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at NYU Langone Health and the Perlmutter Cancer Center. Dr. Shapiro earned his medical degree from Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, completed his general surgery residency at Temple University Hospital, and pursued fellowship training in surgical oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He is board-certified in Surgery and is widely respected for his expertise in multidisciplinary cancer care and oncologic surgery.

Dr. Shapiro is known for his work in advanced surgical management of melanoma and other cutaneous malignancies, including sentinel lymph node biopsy, minimally invasive techniques, and regional therapies for in-transit disease.
