Dr. Tara O. Henderson, MD, MPH, is a highly respected pediatric oncologist specializing in childhood cancer survivorship and long-term health outcomes of cancer survivors. She serves as Professor of Pediatrics and Chief of the Section of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at the University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children’s Hospital. Dr. Henderson earned her medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine and a Master of Public Health from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. She completed her residency in pediatrics at Boston Children’s Hospital and Boston Medical Center and her fellowship in pediatric hematology/oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Boston Children’s Hospital. She is board-certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and is recognized for her expertise in cancer survivorship research and care delivery.
Dr. Henderson’s work focuses on late effects of cancer therapy, health disparities in survivorship, and the development of survivorship care models. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and contributed to national guidelines that define standards for long-term follow-up care for childhood cancer survivors. She co-leads studies within the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study (CCSS) and serves on national committees shaping survivorship policy and practice.
In addition to her research and clinical leadership, Dr. Henderson is a dedicated educator and mentor to medical students, residents, and fellows. She is actively engaged in national and international organizations, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), and the American Cancer Society (ACS). Through her work, Dr. Tara Henderson continues to advance survivorship care and improve quality of life for cancer survivors.
