Ophthalmic Oncologist
Dr. Jasmine H. Francis, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist with specialty training in ophthalmic oncology, focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of cancers in, on, and around the eye. She practices at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where she works as part of a multidisciplinary team that includes radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, pathologists, neurologists, and pediatric oncologists to deliver coordinated, individualized care. Dr. Francis graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa with honors from Columbia University, where she also received a Research Fellowship Award and spent a year at Oxford University. She earned her medical degree from New York University School of Medicine, completed her ophthalmology residency at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, where she received the William J. & Judith Turner Outstanding Resident Award, and returned to Memorial Sloan Kettering to complete her fellowship in ophthalmic oncology.
As a clinician-scientist, Dr. Francis has established a broad research portfolio centered on intraocular tumors, with a particular focus on retinoblastoma and uveal melanoma, as well as the ocular side effects of cancer treatment. She is a member of the MSK Kids team, caring for young patients with retinoblastoma, a pediatric eye cancer that requires balancing effective treatment with preserving vision and eye health. She also participates in an interdisciplinary program at Memorial Sloan Kettering dedicated to treating and studying histiocytic disorders such as Erdheim-Chester disease and Langerhans cell histiocytosis, contributing her expertise on how these systemic diseases and their treatments affect the eye. She has published numerous peer-reviewed papers and book chapters, and her research has been supported by funding from the Macula Society.
Dr. Francis has received significant recognition for her contributions to ophthalmology and oncology. She was granted an Achievement Award by the American Academy of Ophthalmology and was named among the Top 40 Under 40 in both Ophthalmology, by The Ophthalmologist, and in Cancer, by McGivney Global Advisor, the Lynk group.
