Bone Marrow Transplant Specialist & Cellular Therapist, specializing in bone marrow transplant
Dr. Jonathan Peled, MD, PhD, is a medical oncologist specializing in bone marrow transplantation and cellular therapies for blood cancers, including leukemias, multiple myeloma, myelodysplastic syndrome, and lymphoma. His clinical practice is dedicated to the care of hospitalized patients. Dr. Peled has long been drawn to the intersection of biology, cancer, and the immune system, and pursued a career in oncology for its scientific momentum and the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with patients and their families. In his clinical approach, he considers patients and families holistically, attending closely to technical details while keeping the patient's goals, values, and quality of life at the center of every decision.
Dr. Peled's research is focused on two interconnected areas: understanding how the transplanted donor immune system achieves its cancer-fighting effects, and addressing graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), a serious complication in which donor immune cells attack the patient's organs following a stem cell or bone marrow transplant. He views reducing or eliminating GVHD as a critical step toward expanding the number of patients who can benefit from the curative potential of transplantation. Alongside this work, he leads a laboratory investigating how the intestinal microbiome, the community of bacteria residing in the gut, shapes immune function and influences the success of cancer immunotherapy.
Dr. Peled brings together rigorous laboratory science and direct patient care, motivated by the goal of translating biological insights into better outcomes for patients with blood cancers. His dual focus on transplant immunology and microbiome research reflects a broad commitment to understanding and harnessing the immune system in cancer treatment. Outside of medicine, he lives in Westchester County with his wife and three sons and enjoys theater and tennis.
