Head and Neck Surgeon, specializing in Head and neck cancers
Dr. Marc A. Cohen, MD, MPH, is a head and neck and skull base surgeon at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, specializing in the treatment of cancerous and noncancerous tumors of the head and neck, skull base, and thyroid. He earned both a medical degree and a Master of Public Health, reflecting his commitment to patient outcomes and population-level health. As a core member of MSK's skull base tumor team, Dr. Cohen performs more than 250 procedures annually, treating a wide range of complex conditions including sinus cancers, pituitary adenomas, meningiomas, craniopharyngiomas, and chordomas. He collaborates closely with neurosurgeons and fellow head and neck surgeons to deliver coordinated, multidisciplinary care for patients facing challenging diagnoses.
Dr. Cohen is committed to minimally invasive and endoscopic surgical techniques, which he uses whenever possible to reduce damage to surrounding healthy tissue and limit treatment-related side effects. His research focuses on patient outcomes following surgery for head and neck and skull base tumors, with a particular interest in quality of life after minimally invasive and endoscopic procedures. He believes strongly that cancer treatment should prioritize not only tumor removal but also the preservation of function and overall well-being for patients and their families.
Informed by personal experience with serious illness in his own family, Dr. Cohen brings a deeply empathetic approach to his clinical practice. He is attentive to the full spectrum of concerns that accompany a cancer diagnosis and strives to make patients and their families feel seen and supported as people, not just as patients. Outside the hospital, he enjoys time with his family, hiking, eating pizza, and listening to 90s alternative music.
