About this trial

This trial looks at two ways to treat brain cancer caused by small cell lung cancer. One method is called stereotactic radiosurgery, which delivers a strong dose of radiation directly to the tumor. The other method is whole brain radiation therapy that avoids a part of the brain important for memory, called the hippocampus. The main goal is to see which treatment better helps patients keep their memory and thinking skills.

The trial's ID number is NCT04804644. It is a Phase 3 trial, meaning it is looking at how well the treatments work and how safe they are. The trial aims to include about 200 participants.

Who can join

Adults aged 18 and older can join this trial. It is open to both men and women with a confirmed diagnosis of small cell lung cancer that has spread to the brain. Participants should have brain tumors that are 4 cm or smaller and meet other specific health criteria. The trial team will confirm who is eligible to participate.

What happens in the study

Participants are randomly placed into one of two groups. One group receives stereotactic radiosurgery, while the other group undergoes whole brain radiation therapy along with a medication called memantine. Everyone will also have blood samples taken and MRIs done during the study to monitor their progress.
