Dr. Al Baghdadi

Dr. Al B. Baghdadi, MD, PhD, is a medical oncologist and translational researcher specializing in breast cancer and early-phase clinical trials. He serves as Director of Breast Medical Oncology and Director of the Early Therapeutics Program at Advocate Health, and is Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. Dr. Baghdadi earned his medical degree from the University of Jordan, completed his internal medicine residency at the Cleveland Clinic, and pursued fellowship training in hematology and oncology at the University of Chicago. He holds a PhD in Pharmacology from Loyola University Chicago and is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Medical Oncology.

An expert in experimental therapeutics and drug development, Dr. Baghdadi’s research focuses on targeting resistance pathways in breast cancer and improving outcomes through novel treatment strategies. He leads and designs investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored trials involving antibody-drug conjugates, immune-oncology agents, and molecularly targeted therapies. His translational work bridges laboratory findings with clinical application, with a particular emphasis on triple-negative and hormone receptor–positive breast cancers. Dr. Baghdadi is a frequent contributor to national and international conferences and has published extensively on mechanisms of therapeutic resistance and biomarker-driven trial design.

In addition to his research leadership, Dr. Baghdadi is a committed clinician, educator, and mentor. He plays a central role in shaping the early-phase clinical research infrastructure across the Advocate Health system and collaborates closely with academic and industry partners to expand access to innovative therapies. He serves on scientific advisory boards and is an active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Association for Cancer Research.
