Dr. Bruno C. Medeiros

Dr. Bruno C. Medeiros, MD, is a prominent figure in hematologic oncology and an Associate Professor of Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine. A graduate of the Universidade Federal do Paraná in Brazil, he earned his medical degree in 1998 and completed postgraduate training in Internal Medicine at the University of Connecticut, followed by a fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at the University of Colorado. He further specialized with acute leukemia training at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto. Board‑certified in Internal Medicine and Hematology/Oncology, Dr. Medeiros treats patients at Stanford Health Care in Palo Alto, focusing on complex blood cancers including acute leukemia, myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), multiple myeloma, and other hematologic disorders.

He is deeply engaged in developing and leading novel clinical therapies for acute leukemia. Dr. Medeiros directs investigator‑initiated trials at Stanford and actively contributes to multi‑institutional studies through the SWOG Acute Leukemia Committee. His research centers on experimental regimens targeting acute myeloid leukemia (AML), including combinations of epigenetic agents, monoclonal antibodies, and targeted drugs aimed at improving outcomes in both newly diagnosed and relapsed patients. He also investigates prognostic biomarkers and genomic predictors of response and resistance, helping to drive personalized, biology‑based treatment strategies in high‑risk hematologic malignancies.

In addition to his clinical and research roles, Dr. Medeiros is a committed educator and institutional leader. He serves on Stanford’s hematology faculty, mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows in both inpatient and outpatient settings. He formerly directed inpatient hematology services and infusion units, and served on the National Comprehensive Cancer Network panels for adult oncology and multiple myeloma. Through his extensive clinical leadership, translational research, and dedication to trainee development, Dr. Medeiros is recognized as a top expert in acute leukemia and hematologic cancer therapy.
